Happy New Years

Hubby and I are not ones for really celebrating the New Years so we don't go out New Years Eve. Instead we splurge on take out foods and eat it at home. Tonight we went to Subway and got 2 of their $2 6   inch meatball subs and then I ran next door to Mc Donald's and got 2 medium fries. I had already made ice tea earlier this morning so all total it costs us just under $7 for the two of us to eat a take out meal. We both had a meal that we liked, I didn't have to cook and it less than half of what it would have cost us to sit in a restaurant and eat. :)

I hope everyone has a happy New Years eve and year to come.

My little Yahoo Groups

I love to cook. I could cook all day long. Its washing the dishes that I don't like. Thank goodness I have a dishwasher. LOL I am co-owner with my good friend Denise of two little cooking groups on Yahoo.

The first one is an Amish Style cooking group. My step dad who raised me half of my childhood was raised by Amish parents. I learned about how the Amish women cook when we went to Ohio on vacations in the summers. I really love the food they cooked and I love to cook using Amish recipes. I have a small collection of Amish cookbooks that I use a lot. If I find a really good recipe in them that my family really likes I share the recipe with my internet friends on my

Another little cooking group my friend Denise and I co-own is called Cooking with Love. Any one can cook but love always gives food a better flavor. If you love to cook and love the people you are cooking for then its makes everything better. :)

My Food Pantry

This is part of my food pantry storage. I bought these cabinets for $29 a piece at Targets a few years ago to use to store my childcare supplies such as art supplies, extra toys, games and puzzles. When I had to quit doing childcare in my home due to health issues I decided to use them for extra food storage. They came in quite handy don't you think?

My first post

This is my first time of trying to create a blog. I hope you will forgive any mistakes I make along the way till I get the hang of this. I am hoping to be able to share the frugal hints and tips that I have learned through the years and to show you some of the things that I do to be frugal as I can. My husband and I are both disabled so we live on a limited income. I have to plan our expenses very carefully each month in order to get through the month on what little income we have coming in. Its hard to do some times but I manage for the most part.

I cook most of what we eat from scratch, I grow a garden and can what we get from it. I also buy fresh produce in season from area farmers and either can or freeze some of that to. I like to make my own mixes and convenience foods. This year I got my first Excalibur food dehydrator and I am loving it. I have dried, apples, tomatoes, cranberries, bananas, celery, mixed veggies, mushrooms, potatoes and peas in it so far. I hope to do a lot more this coming year.

I look forward to showing you my frugal ways and I hope to learn even more frugal ways from you.
