Happy New Years

Hubby and I are not ones for really celebrating the New Years so we don't go out New Years Eve. Instead we splurge on take out foods and eat it at home. Tonight we went to Subway and got 2 of their $2 6   inch meatball subs and then I ran next door to Mc Donald's and got 2 medium fries. I had already made ice tea earlier this morning so all total it costs us just under $7 for the two of us to eat a take out meal. We both had a meal that we liked, I didn't have to cook and it less than half of what it would have cost us to sit in a restaurant and eat. :)

I hope everyone has a happy New Years eve and year to come.

  1. Carol, my boss is from PA and yesterday we were talking about New Years food traditions. I mentioned that black eyed peas and cornbread, while delicious, are just too high in carbs for me and she told me that in her family/area the tradition is sauerkraut and pork! Apparently they put it in a roaster and bake it in the oven all night on a very, very low temperature. I'm not big on pork but have gotten myself used to pork bacon again and even made myself eat a few bites of pork rib not long ago.

Pork and kraut are just darn near carb free if the pork isn't breaded so we went in together tonight and bought a lot of kraut, a pork steak, and plenty of ribs and threw it all in my big slow cooker since I don't have a roaster. I also got some beef ribs and am making a small amount of that in case I just don't like the other. ;)

Some of it will go to her mother and stepdad tomorrow and the rest will go to work with us There will be plenty for whoever wants some. :) We all get some great food at a great price and it's low in carbs. Yeehaw!

  2. I love pork and kraut together. So does hubby. His black eyed peas are in the crockpot for today. Now I am thinking of pulling a couple of pork chops out of the freezer and a jar of home canned kraut of the pantry and placing them in another crockpot. :)

    Don't work to hsrd today.
